Dixons Carphone has signed a deal with Three UK owner Hutchison Whampoa to offer mobile phone services to its customers. Under the agreement, Dixons Carphone customers will be offered a plan that allows them to tailor their own price, minutes and data. Customers buying connected devices such as laptops, tablets, TVs or appliances from any of the firm's high street brands - Carphone Warehouse, Currys or PC World - will be able to take out a contract at the same time. The move to offer mobile services is part of Dixons Carphone's expansion into the Internet of Things arena and a logical step for the firm's mobile services is to bundle these connected devices with mobile contracts which will appeal to those customers who prefer to spread the cost of their device. The firm's chiefs say that the IoT space is expanding rapidly and becoming a service provider could be worth in excess of £5 billion to the retailer. There's no confirmed name for the new network but it is expected to launch in the summer.
