Samsung announced the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5, which, the company claims, combines an advanced camera, the fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and device protection features.
The Galaxy S5, successor to the Galaxy S4, features a perforated pattern on the back cover. It comes in four colours - charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold.
The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch FHD Super AMOLED (1920 x 1080) display. Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core application processor and Android 4.4.2 KitKat, it comes packed with a 2800mAh battery. It has 2GB of RAM.

The phone comes in two variants - 16GB and 32GB. Both models allow users to expand memory up to 64GB. The phone weighs 145g.
The Galaxy S5 is dust and water resistant. It also offers a Finger Scanner, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature and a seamless and safe mobile payment experience to consumers.
Its Ultra Power Saving Mode turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimise the battery consumption.
The Galaxy S5 features a 16 megapixel rear camera. It is claimed to offer the world's fastest autofocus speed - up to 0.3 seconds. Its new Selective Focus feature allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background. It has a 2.1 megapixel front camera.
The phone comes with the improved S Health 3.0, which, Samsung says, offers more tools to help people stay fit. Galaxy S5 users can further customise their experience with a third party app ecosystem and the ability to pair with next-generation Gear products for real-time fitness coaching.

The X family boasts Nokia’s exciting, high quality hardware design and a range of bright colours. The brand new, tile-based Home screen offers you a simple, elegant way to manage your apps and phone functions and also reintroduces a redesigned version of the enormously popular Fastlane notifications centre – a second Home screen if you like – from the latest Asha devices.

The Nokia X family offers terrific value with acclaimed Nokia and Microsoft services and experiences. HERE Mapswith turn-by-turn navigation and offline maps are included. Nokia MixRadio offers hundreds of free streaming and offline playlists. Free cloud storage from Microsoft OneDrive with 7GB of space for free is included out of the box. There’s also access to Outlook.com as your email service. And there’s Skype with a month’s free calls to international landlines in selected markets.
All three of the devices are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual Core processor and are Dual SIM. A range of third-party apps comes preinstalled, including BBM, Plants vs. Zombies 2, Viber, Vine and Twitter. As many more as you can fit can be obtained from the Nokia Store, third-party app stores and sideloaded.

The Nokia Xis the entry level member of the family, with 4-inch IPS LCD screen, 512MB RAM and a 3-megapixel camera. It will be available in green, black, white, yellow, cyan and red.
The Nokia X+offers you a little more, as the name suggests: there’s 768MB RAM and a 4GB MicroSD card is included in the box. It comes in the same colours as the Nokia X.
Lastly, the clue is in the name for the Nokia XL, as well, with its 5-inch screen. The Nokia XL also boasts 768MB RAM, the free MicroSD card and it has both a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for Skype calls, as well as a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and flash. The same colours are available as for the Nokia X and X+, except bright orange replaces the red with this model.

The Nokia X will be available to buy immediately in Asia Pacific, Europe, india, Latin America, the Middle-East and Africa. The Nokia X+ and XL are expected to be available from Q2 2014. The prices quoted do not include any local taxes or operator subsidies.

Well before the Moto G was officially released in India, it was assumed that the device would be a big hit in the country. Before the official release, the low-cost handset from Motorola was topping the charts through grey market retailers. The Moto G officially went on sale today and it sold out in less than one hour through the official retailer.

Motorola opted for an exclusive deal in India, so the Moto G was only offered through Flipkart. The 16GB version of the Moto G was sold for Rs 13,999 (~$224) and the 8GB model was listed at Rs 12,499 (~$199). Both sold out in less than one hour, but it is unclear how many units were made available at launch. In an unofficial sale through Snapdeal yesterday, 1000 Moto G pre-orders were sold out in two hours.
The demand is obviously there, but Motorola has explained that it does have a plan for India, and part of that plan is to not flood the market with the Moto G. Instead, Motorola is taking a more cautious route in order to not put too much strain on the company's infrastructure. The Indian public may be hoping for a faster rollout of the device, but it looks like you may have to be patient on this.

The ongoing cyber war between India and Pakistan is the latest in the series of such online battles between the two neighbouring countries. GCSRT sources said the dispute between the two countries over Kashmir had spilled into cyber space with each country’s hackers repeatedly targeting the other country’s computing database.
Indian hackers defaced homepages of nearly hundred Pakistani websites on Wednesday, apparently in retaliation to the defacement of more than 2000 Indian websites by Pakistani hackers on Republic day.

The cyber retaliation by the hacker group ‘Indian Cyber Rakshak” may continue for some more time and more Pakistani sites could be targeted, feel cyber security experts based in Bangalore.
Indian hackers had obviously managed to penetrate the servers and hosted messages “Hacked by Indian Cyber Rakshak”. The defaced home pages continued to host the message till evening.
Sources in Bangalore-based Global Cyber Security Response Team (GCSRT) said the retaliatory defacements of Pakistani websites began on Tuesday night. “Close to a hundred websites had been hacked so far”, sources said.
On Republic Day, Pakistani hackers defaced 2,118 Indian websites including those of Central Bank of India and model-turned actress Poonam Pandey. Ms Pandey’s website, which was hacked by a group identifying itself as “Team Madleets”, displayed the messages like “Pakistan Zindabad,” besides “your site security is compromised” and “Patch your site” even on Wednesday afternoon, while the website of Central Bank of India has, however been restored.
Sources in Central Bank of India said the website was restored within minutes of it being hacked two days ago. Now, the users have to use the website through https://www.centralbankofindia.co.in
Though the home page of Indian Railways was not affected, sources in GCSRT said the hackers had managed to upload an index.html in a subdirectory or internal link (" http://er.indianrailways.gov.in/cris/edrm_site/notice/index.html")
Cyber security experts in Bangalore said most of the Indian websites had been defaced by Pakistani hackers going with the handle “StrikerRude”, “KashmirCyberArmy”, “PakCyber Expert”, “HUnter Gujar” and the Operation was named as “#OP26jan”.
The GCSRT member said Republic Day’s hacking of a total of 2,118 websites comes two weeks after 1,400 Indian websites were hacked. A majority of the hacked websites were still being restored, he added.
However, officials in National Informatics Centre (NIC), Bangalore, said they have not received any information of Government websites hosted and managed by them in Karnataka being affected.

Japanese manufacturer Sonystarted the Consumer Electronics Show this year with an iPhone-sized top-end smartphone, but it seems to have a few more tricks up its sleeves. The first image of its upcoming flagship model - codenamed Sirius - has surfaced on the internet, along with leaked specifications.
The leak comes courtesy Chinese website Digi-wo, where a user has posted the image of the back panel of the Xperia Z2 sourced from Sony's R&D department. The image suggests that the manufacturer is doing away with the glass back panel that its top models have sported since early 2013 and will instead use a carbon fibre or metallic body.

In terms of hardware specifications, the Xperia Z2 is said to have a 5.3-inch display and 23MP rear camera. This camera will be an upgrade from the 20.7MP module used in the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact, which is already higher than the current industry standard of 13MP.
The post also says that the model will be launched in five colours and will be unveiled next month. It is expected that Sony will showcase the Xperia Z2 at the Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona, scheduled from Feb 24 to Feb 27. However, the launch date of the model is not yet known.

iBerry Auxus Nuclea N2, which was announced last week, is now up for grabs in India. While the phone is priced at Rs 23,990, it is availablefor Rs 19,990 as part of a limited introductory offer.

The phone is powered by an octa-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHz and has 2GB of RAM. The Auxus Nuclea N2 has a 5.7-inch full HD display. The smartphone has an internal memory of 16GB. Its memory is expandable, the phone supports a microSD card of up to 64GB.
The phablet has a 13 megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and auto-focus. The phone is packed with a 3500mAh Li-ion battery, and runs Android 4.2.2 OS. The company will roll out Android 4.4 KitKat for the phone by the end of this quarter.

Does that matter? It might — NVIDIA says the Tegra K1 brings PC-level graphics to mobile devices, and Epic Games is bringing its Unreal Engine 4 game platform to the Tegra K1 chip.
The chip also supports NVIDIA’s CUDA parallel processing technology, which means the GPU cores can be leveraged to perform duties normally handled by a CPU core… assuming app developers write software that uses that capability.
NVIDIA says the chip is more powerful than the processors in the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360, and supports DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.4 capabilities. It also uses just 5W of power, compared with 100W for the chips in those last-gen game consoles.
There will be two versions of the Tegra K1 chip. The first will be based on a 32-bit ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, much like the Tegra 4 chips available today. The second is based on next-gen ARMv8 architecture. It’s a dual-core chip based on NVIDIA’s new Denver 64-bit CPU architecture.
The 32 bit version runs at up to 2.3 GHz and is based on 3-way superscalar architecture , while the 64-bit model is a 7-way superscalar chip that supports clock speeds up to 2.5 GHz.
NVIDIA is also making a play for the in-vehicle computing space, with an automotive version of the K1 chip designed to help with assistive driving systems, doing things like helping to identify obstacles on the road, the distance between your vehicle and the ones ahead of it, and more.

On the hardware side, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 features a quad core 1.8GHz Krait CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU, it also features a HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) processing engine to upscale 1080p content to Ultra HD quality.
Qualcomm have said that they will start to work with TV and set top box manufacturers shortly on the Snapdragon 802 processor and expect the first devices to launch later in the year.

Get ready for a smartphone carrying 4GB of RAM. On Monday in Korea, Samsung announced that it has developed the first 8 gigabit (Gb), low power double data rate 4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM. The chip was built using the 20nm process and offers 1GB on a single die. This means it has the largest density on a DRAM component. In addition, Samsung says it provides a high level of performance with low energy consumption. Four of the 8Gb chips would combine to offer a single 4GB LPDDR4 package would would mean 4GB of RAM for a smartphone, or other device.

The 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM would allow for faster applications, higher resolution displays, longer battery life, and more advanced features for your device. With the new Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface, data will be transferred per pin at a rate of 3200Mbps. That is twice as fast as the 20nm process LPDDR3 DRAM that is currently mass produced. It also achieves 50% higher performance than the fastest DDR3 memory chip and at 1.1 volts, uses only 40% of the energy.
The chip will be used for top-shelf devices, including smartphones, and will be ready for shipment in 2014.

Samsung has been making headlines with rumours of its first Tizen smartphone for a while. Now, a Samsung Tizen smartphone with model number SC-03F has been spotted on a FCC listing, and is believed to be bound for Japanese carrier, NTT DoCoMo.

According to Tizen Indonesia, who first spotted the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) listing of the alleged Samsung SC-03F, the device comes with similar design to the company's 2013 Android flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S4. However, it suggests that the alleged Samsung SC-03F has a sleeker profile, compared to the Galaxy S4. The site also reveals that the rumoured Samsung SC-03F is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. Notably, the same chipset powers the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3and recently unveiled Galaxy J.
The radio frequency bands allegedly supported by the spotted Samsung SC-03F model include 850/1900MHz GSM, WCDMA 850, while connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 (Low Energy). As of now, not many details about the innards of the device have been revealed.
In addition, Sammobileclaims that the Japanese carrier, NTT DoCoMo will be the first mobile carrier to sell a Tizen smartphone and also reveals that Samsung might unveil the yet-to-be-named Tizen smartphone at an event on February 23.
An earlier report suggested that Samsung would showcase its commercial devices based on TizenOS at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014.
n November, Samsung's yet-to-be-announced GT-I8800 Redwood Tizen smartphone was spotted in benchmarks. The latest version of Tizen (version 3.0), the Linux-based open source operating system which is backed by Intel and Samsung, was also released at the Tizen developer Summit in November.

The system will also be able to capture any dubious voice traffic passing through software such as Skype or GoogleTalk, says a telecom department note seen by ET. "Intelligence Bureau and Cabinet Secretariat are currently testing 'Netra', which will be deployed by all national security agencies," the note says. "The specifications of the 'Netra' system can be taken as frozen following tests by the Intelligence Bureau and Cabinet Secretariat, and can be considered for providing multiple user access to security agencies," it adds.
The 'Netra' internet surveillance system has been developed by Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIR), a lab under Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).
To hasten its deployment, the home ministry will shortly approach DRDOto allocate additional manpower resources to Bangalore-based CAIR, which is also working with the government's telecom technology arm, Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) to formalise a strategy for tracking internet use.
The 'Netra' deployment strategy was recently discussed by an apex inter-ministerial group headed by DoT's member (technology) and included top officials of the Cabinet Secretariat, home ministry, DRDO, CAIR, Intelligence Bureau, C-DoT and Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The panel also deliberated on ways to respond to computer security incidents, track system vulnerabilities and promote effective IT security practices across the country.
During the meeting, it was also decided that 300 GB of storage space for intercepted internet traffic would be given to a maximum three security agencies, including the IB and Cabinet Secretariat, while an extra 100 GB would be assigned to the remaining law enforcement agencies, the minutes of the inter-ministerial panel meeting showed. Deployment of 'Netra' by security agencies is slated to pave the way for a national internet scanning & coordination centre, which India plans to establish along the lines of existing facilities in the UK, US, China and Iran.

Nokiahas launched its new flagship smartphone, Lumia 1520 in the Indian smartphone market. The handset is the first Nokia devicewith a 6-inch screen and quad-core processor and was unveiled globally in Abu Dhabiin September. At Rs 46,999, it is among the most expensive Nokia smartphones in the market.
Lumia 1520 has a full HD (1080p) display and runs on a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, the most powerful in the world right now. On the back, this handset sports a 20MP PureView camerawith optical image stabilization.
The handset also has 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and supports microSD cards for expandable storage. Powered by a 3,400mAh, Lumia 1520 has connectivity options like 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and NFC.
The new Nokia Lumia 1520will compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note3, HTC One Max and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

Nokia has also launched a back cover for the Lumia 1520 at Rs 2,999 at the same event. The Lumia 1520 will be available in Red, Black, Yellow and White from Monday.

LG seems to be in no mood to rest after the laurels earned by its flagship smartphone, the LG G2, as the company has now launched the LG Gx.
LGannounced its new entrant in G series at an event in Korea and also confirmed that the phablet will be initially available in Korea only, with no word on global availability. Further, the South Korean handset maker has not revealed the prices for the LG Gx.
The newly launched LG Gx packs almost identical specifications to the LG Optimus G Pro. The new LG phablet runs Android Jelly Bean with no word on the exact version. It features with 5.5-inch IPS full-HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The LG Gx is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor (unspecified clock speed) along with 2GB of RAM.
It sports a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera and also houses a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The LG Gx includes 32GB of inbuilt storage, which is non-expandable. It comes with dimensions 150.6x76.1x9.2mm and weighs 167 grams. Much like the LG Optimus G Pro, it packs a 3,140mAh removable battery. Connectivity options on the phablet include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Micro-USB, NFC, 3G and LTE. The LG Gx will be available in two colours - Black and White.
The LG Gx comes with some preloaded apps that have been seen on devices like the LG Optimus G Pro and the flagship, the G2. Some of the popular preloaded features included in the new phablet are KnockON, Pause and Resume Recording, QRemote, QSlide, QuickMemo and QTranslator.

British chip designer ARM Holdings Plc's shares rose as much as 5.7 percent after Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Google Inc may use ARM's technology to design its own server processors.
A deal would speed up ARM's push into the server market, where it has been a late entrant. ARM's chief executive, Simon Segars, said in March after taking the helm that he saw big opportunities in servers, an area where the company was just getting started.

ARM licenses its designs to chipmakers such as Qualcomm and Texas Instruments, whose chips are used in Apple Inc's iPhone and Samsung Electronic Co's Galaxy devices. ARM, which receives royalty on the sale of every chip that uses its technology, declined to comment on the report.
Jefferies analyst Lee Simpson said he expected companies such as Amazon and Facebook, which maintain large server farms, to adopt ARM's designs over the next couple of years. ARM's strength in designing low-power processors has enabled it to dominate the mobile devices sector, while Intel Corp is by far the leader in chips used in servers and personal computers. A deal between ARM and Google could dent Intel's dominance in the server market as Google is one of the biggest buyers of server chips.

"Since ARM chips for servers are cheaper, consume less power and require lower cooling compared with Intel chips, they would be very attractive for Google," Charles Stanley analyst Tom Gidley-Kitchin told Reuters. Intel's shares fell as much as 1.5 percent in early trading on Friday on the Nasdaq.
Gidley-Kitchin also said Google could be using the deal to pressure Intel to reduce prices of its low-power chips. For Google, a deal could result in massive savings and help it manage its servers better.
Google, which contributes about 5 percent to Intel's sales, could better manage the interactions between hardware and software if it used its own designs, Bloomberg said, citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter. "We are actively engaged in designing the world's best infrastructure. This includes both hardware design (at all levels) and software design," Google said in an emailed comment to Reuters. Some analysts said fears that Intel could lose a chunk of its market share were overblown.
"We believe that ARM based server products will predominantly cater to hyperscale workloads and capture just 10 percent of overall server units by 2018," FBR Capital Markets analyst Christopher Rolland said in a note. ARM's shares closed up 3 percent at 1003 pence on on Friday the London Stock Exchange. The company's U.S.-listed shares were up 3.4 percent at $49.27 by midday on the Nasdaq.

Motorola believes though that this is about bringing consumers into the fold. While the prospect of a completely customisable smartphone is tantalising, the lack of clear details does not fill us with confidence. The presence of a prototype notwithstanding, Ara is very much in the concept category at the moment.

The Karbonn Titanium Xthat briefly showed up on the Karbonn website is priced at Rs. 18,500. The handset does come with full HD screen and the specification are now mentioned on the official website.
When the Titanium X was first mentioned there was confusion regarding the screen resolution, now it is confirmed that the 5 inch OGS IPS screen is with 1920x1080p (full HD) resolution. The specifications still does not clearly indicate the chipset or the processor, but the image on the X page does mention a 1.5GHz quad core that points to MediaTek MT6589T chipsetwith SGX 544MP GPU, however if you look at the Karbonn Titanium S7specifications it is the same as X, this could mean that the X may come with some other chipset probably Snapdragon, better wait and watch.
The Karbonn Titanium X dual SIM handset is 9.9mm thick and weight is around 143 grams. It sails on android 4.2 with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage, plus 32GB external SD card support. There is 13MP rear auto focus camera with dual LED flash and front camera of 5MP resolution. Full HD video recording / playback is supported.
Other features are 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. Not sure if the handset supports NFC cause the graphics does show NFC support but the same is not mentioned in the specifications. The removable battery is 2300 mAh capacity with talk-time of up to 6 hours and can be fully charged in about 3 hours.
