Facebook confirms to have been working on new internet satellite

The email documents reveal that the satellite would be named 'Athena' and will see an official launch as early as 2019.   This new satellite is designed to“efficiently provide broadband access to unserved and underserved areas throughout the world,” according to Facebook's application that appears to have been filed with the FCC under the name PointView Tech LLC. Facebook with this filing joins Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Softbank-backed OneWeb who are also working on similar projects. However, emails that go back to July 2016, and subsequent confirmation confirms the reports about Facebook starting a satellite internet project. Now the new detail meetings between FCC officials and lawyers that Facebook hired specializes in representing clients before government agencies to discuss applying for an experimental license to construct and operate a “small LEO [low Earth orbit] satellite system with a limited duration mission.” Furthermore, the emails indicate that Facebook also set up subsequent meetings with the FCC in June and December of 2017. Meaning, notifications from websites like Facebook lets you quickly get back with a reply just like you would to a normal message from another application. Just to be clear, the feature is currently in testing and isn't available even on Google Chrome Canary yet. It would allow you to quickly reply to a notification from your status bar, given that website have support for it. Such a feature should be very useful in scenarios like talking to a customer support chat or messaging friends through a website. Once the testing is done, the feature should make its way to the Canary channel straight after. Currently, there are no details that explain how the feature works or how to enable it, so it might be a while before it is made available to everyone. TRAI’s new regulations offers users more control to block pesky calls

A month after the rules are notified, users can set their preferences on when they would like to receive commercial communications as well as preferred modes of communication- call or SMS. Under these new norms, TRAI has asked telecom operators to allow customers to set their preference using a mobile app that is developed by them or the regulator, by sending SMS to 1909, website, etc. without paying any money for these services. This is a new addition to existing options for subscribers to partially or fully block any commercial communication. Trai has increased the penalty cap on telecom operators Rs 50 lakh in a month from Rs 5 lakh in previous regulations for violations of the norms. Telecom operators are given 120 days to ensure the modification made by subscribers around receiving tele-marketing or business calls is updated in 15 minutes, and commercial communication is caused by the customer as per the modified choice after 24 hours of request. This open source initiative will enable consumers to transfer their data directly from one service to another, without needing to download and re-upload it. Download Data feature is already available to users and they can transfer their information directly to their Dropbox, Box, MS OneDrive, and Google Drive accounts starting today. Thanks to this project, the companies involved in this project are developing tools that can convert any service's proprietary APIs to and from a small set of standardized data formats that can be used by anyone. This makes it possible to transfer data between any two providers using existing industry-standard infrastructure and authorization mechanisms, such as OAuth. The existing code for the project is available as open-source on GitHub, along with a white paper describing its scope. Even though the about page shows it as June, it actually has July security update, says OnePlus. If you are still using beta OS on the 3 or 3T, you have to flash the stable ROM manually by downloading it from downloads.oneplus.net. The company already said that it will provide Android version updates for the 3 and 3T till November 2018 and Android security updates till November 2019.
