At Samsung’s annual Unpacked event, the company announced a new set of truly wireless headphones, called the Galaxy Buds, aimed to compete with a heap of other truly wireless headphones that have cropped up recently.
Granted, these aren’t Samsung’s first dive into truly wireless headphones, as the company released the Gear IconX headphones back in 2016 just a couple months before Apple released their AirPods. Today, however, Samsung looks to improve on its past creation.
The Galaxy Buds look like your run-of-the-mill wireless headphones, complete with a nifty little charging case, but the big feature with these is that they can be wirelessly charged using the new Galaxy S10 phone that Samsung also announced today. The feature is called Powershare, and it allows users to simply rest their Galaxy Buds on the back of the S10 to charge them up. They can also be charged using a regular wireless charging mat, and there’s a USB-C port if old-school charging is still your thing.
Obviously, sound quality is the biggest factor we’re curious about, but Samsung has partnered with AKG to handle the audio portion, so they should sound pretty decent.
For battery life, we’re looking at six hours of music listening for the earbuds themselves, and then the case will provide another seven hours (which is a far cry from the extra 24 hours that the AirPods case offers).
You’ll be able to buy yourself a pair of Galaxy Buds for $129 starting on March 8th. However, if you pre-order a Galaxy S10 or S10+ before March 7th, Samsung will throw in a pair of Galaxy Buds for free. You’ll be able to choose between white, black, and yellow.
