KaiOS, popular mobile operating system for smart feature phones that powers the JioPhone and the Nokia 8110 4G has announced their collaboration to integrate KaiOS with a series of MediaTek chipsets to power 3G and 4G devices. As part of this cooperation, the KaiOS mobile operating system will now run on the 3G MT6572 platform, and the latest MT6731, with support for dual-4G SIM cards. MediaTek chipsets on these smart feature phones will be equipped with 3G and 4G capabilities, while requiring very little memory, starting at 512MB of RAM and as low as 256MB on some devices. MediaTek’s MT6731 quad-core 64-bit platform with ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and IMG PowerVR GE8100-class GPU is targeted at smart-feature phones with support for up to HVGA displays and brings dual 4G SIM technology to the entry-segment mobile phone market and offers a highly cost-optimized platform for device makers in both carrier and open markets. It has support for up to 5MP cameras, with dual camera options available, in addition there is support for HD videos at up to 30fps in h.264, with HD video decoding using the modern and efficient (H.265) HEVC codec.
