Prima Games, one of the last remaining video game strategy guide publishers in the business, is shutting down, according to parent company DK.

The iconic label, which was founded in 1990, is ceasing publishing operations ahead of its official closure in the spring. DK announced its “extremely difficult decision” and explained that it came following a “significant decline” in video game guide sales. The publisher will officially close its doors in 2019 after a nearly 30 years in business.

The company’s Roseville office will shut down as of November, while the Indianapolis office will operate through March 2019. There’s currently no word on how long the New York office will remain open, nor if the closure will affect the brand’s online publishing arm in addition to its print division.

The closure follows the acquisition of former strategy guide publisher brand Brady Games in 2014, which was added to the Prima Games portfolio after a Penguin Random House merger. Penguin was previously the owner of Brady Games, while Random House acquired Prima Communications in 2001.

Following Prima Games’ closure, the only strategy guide publisher remaining will be Piggyback, which recently released the massive Red Dead Redemption 2 strategy guide. Whatever happens in the future, one thing’s for certain: Strategy guides will always be an important part of gaming culture, and the print guides already in circulation will continue to live on.
