Qualcomm made a splash back in September with the announcement of the new and improved Snapdragon 3100 platform for wearable, but so far the only model that actually uses it is a $1000 MontBlanc. Fossil fixed that this morning.
The Fossil Sport uses the latest version of Google’s Android-based Wear OS, the Snapdragon 3100, a heart rate monitor, built-in GPS and NFC for mobile payments, and most importantly, a price starting at just $255. The Sport will take advantage of the new hardware to offer “all-day battery life” thanks to a new low-power ambient mode and a beefy 350mah battery. The full circular screen is offered in 41mm and 43mm face sizes, with six different body colors and more than two dozen silicone straps on offer.
Between improvements in Wear OS code and optimizations in the chipset, the new Sport models should outperform the older Fossil Q designs in both performance and longevity. The company claims that the watch will last more than 24 hours with normal usage, plus an extra two days in low power mode. Fossil says they’ll be available to purchase online later today, and in Fossil retail stores on November 12th.
