IDC reports record 46.6 million India smartphone shipments in Q3 2019, 9.3% YoY growth

<img alt="" src="https://images.fonearena.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Redmi-Note-8-Pro_fonearena-02-1024x623.jpg" /> IDC India has reported a record 46.6 million units for smartphone shipments in Q3 2019, which calculates to a 9.3% YoY growth and a 26.5% growth compared to the Q2 this year. This record was largely due to the multiple online sales festivals, new smartphone launches and price corrections on many important models. Online sales continue to increase in India with the online channel taking a share of 45.4%. Offline channels on the other hand, continue to decline with a 2.6% decline YoY. Offline channels were simply not able to match the lucrative offers that online channels provided like No Cost EMI's and financing options. The low end market of Rs 15k contributed for 80% of all sales in Q3 2019. However, it lost a 5% share to the mid range segment which saw double the shipments from Q3 2018 with phones like OnePlus 7, Redmi K20 Pro and vivo V15 Pro proving to be really popular. The Rs. 15K-20k segment saw a good growth of 47.8% YoY growth with strong demand for the Galaxy A50, Redmi Note 7 Pro and vivo Z1 Pro. MediaTek 5G chip will be announced on November 26, will power 5G phones in 2020

It also confirmed that it will introduce the chip on November 26th. At the Computex 2019 in Taiwan back in May the company’s already said that the 5G SoC will be built using 7nm FinFET process technology and MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem built in, and we can expect the full specifications of this chip at the event. It uses the latest Cortex-A77 CPU, Mali-G77 GPU and MediaTek’s most advanced AI processing unit (APU).  The multi-mode 5G chipset is for 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. It supports connectivity from 2G to 4G to bridge existing network access while 5G networks roll out globally. MediaTek already said that it's working with leading cellular operators, equipment makers and suppliers to verify the market readiness of its 5G technologies for mobile and also for smart homes and smart cars. LG sues TCL over LTE patents in Germany

Three lawsuits include, minimizing the loss of packet transmission, control timers for uplink synchronization and interference reduction in the uplink synchronizing process. The suits against TCL were filed only after numerous attempts were made by LG to remedy its concerns, to no avail, said the company. LG said that it successfully asserted its extensive LTE patent portfolio on a number of occasions in the courts by legally challenging the unlawful use of its technologies. As a result of recent legal action, BLU agreed to a licensing deal with LG and a German trial court ruled in favor of LG in three separate litigations against Wiko. "Aggressive investment in research and development has resulted in LG becoming a global technological leader in the mobile communication market, possessing one of the largest portfolios of standard essential patents," said LG. Germany-based market intelligence company IPLytics lists LG as the owner of 11 percent of all 5G standard essential patents issued to date.
