Qualcomm already announced their new Snapdragon 805processor for smartphones and tablets, and now the company has announced another new processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 is designed to be used in smart TVs and set top boxes, and this new processor offers support for Ultra High Definition TV.

“In addition to offering our expertise in the smartphone space, we also are introducing capabilities specific to the smart TV space, which enable our customers to redefine the smart TV category by combining the best of both TV and smartphone experiences,” said Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and co-president of QCT. “Combining the efficient integration of our Snapdragon processing and connectivity components with Qualcomm Technologies’ demonstrated expertise in Android will enable the ultimate home entertainment experience with compelling new ways to watch, play and interact.”
On the hardware side, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 802 features a quad core 1.8GHz Krait CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU, it also features a HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) processing engine to upscale 1080p content to Ultra HD quality.
Qualcomm have said that they will start to work with TV and set top box manufacturers shortly on the Snapdragon 802 processor and expect the first devices to launch later in the year.

Last week we heard that Google and Audiwould announce a new Android based in car system at CES, Google has announced the Open Automotive Alliance, which also included Honda and General Motors and Hyundai.
As well as the vehicle manufacturers, the Open Automotive Alliance also includes companies like NVIDIA, and the companies aim to bring a new Android based in car system to your car.

Audi, GM, Google, Honda, Hyundai and NVIDIA have joined together to form the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), a global alliance of technology and auto industry leaders committed to bringing the Android platform to cars starting in 2014. The OAA is dedicated to a common platform that will drive innovation, and make technology in the car safer and more intuitive for everyone.
The OAA is aimed at accelerating auto innovation with an approach that offers openness, customization and scale, key tenets that have already made Android a familiar part of millions of people’s lives. This open development model and common platform will allow automakers to more easily bring cutting-edge technology to their drivers, and create new opportunities for developers to deliver powerful experiences for drivers and passengers in a safe and scalable way.
Apple has already teamed up with a number of manufacturers like BMW, Miniand more to bring their iOS mobile OS to you vehicle.
It will be interesting to see what Google and Audi and the other manufacturers come up with to bring Android to the car, and the first vehicles from the various manufacturers with Android integration will be launching this year.

Get ready for a smartphone carrying 4GB of RAM. On Monday in Korea, Samsung announced that it has developed the first 8 gigabit (Gb), low power double data rate 4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM. The chip was built using the 20nm process and offers 1GB on a single die. This means it has the largest density on a DRAM component. In addition, Samsung says it provides a high level of performance with low energy consumption. Four of the 8Gb chips would combine to offer a single 4GB LPDDR4 package would would mean 4GB of RAM for a smartphone, or other device.

Samsung's new LPDDR4 means smartphones with 4GB of RAM are coming

The 8Gb LPDDR4 mobile DRAM would allow for faster applications, higher resolution displays, longer battery life, and more advanced features for your device. With the new Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface, data will be transferred per pin at a rate of 3200Mbps. That is twice as fast as the 20nm process LPDDR3 DRAM that is currently mass produced. It also achieves 50% higher performance than the fastest DDR3 memory chip and at 1.1 volts, uses only 40% of the energy.
The chip will be used for top-shelf devices, including smartphones, and will be ready for shipment in 2014.
